Journey to The Cabin

Sharing our Adventures and Work at Double Dog Cabin! Vacation and Get-a-away Cabin for now . . . future retirement home!

Just as we knew she would, Ginger loved The Cabin and the new, unexplored land to roam around. She is a very independent girl, so we gave her room to explore while keeping a close eye on her and the end of her long lead within grabbing distance. Our little girl was on cloud nine!

Duke acted just was we expected. Loved to explore but always kept us in sight, never trying to stray too far and always coming when called. He is such a good boy!!

We took them for walks on their leads at least once a day most every day. Allowing them to explore new areas. Several times a day we would put them on their long leads that were tied to the porch stair posts and let them go. One, if not both, of us would be with them, mostly to help untangle the leads when they would get caught on a rock, around a tree or cactus.

It didn’t take them long to have their first introduction to cactus. Ginger was with Max and rubbed up against it. About the same time, I had Duke and he sniffed the cactus, jumping back when it pricked him. Got a bit closer, sniffed again, sniffed again and jumped back once again when he got too close. Then he finally left it alone! The last day of our visit, Ginger stepped on a whole pod of cactus. Took tweezers to get them all out of her paws. Poor girl!

Saturday morning, I was walking into the bedroom and looked out the window. I saw Ginger and Duke running full speed across the yard. Then I saw Max coming behind them and had a hold of their leads in no time. They were after some white tail deer who had the nerve to cross our land. It brought a smile to my face seeing them run, especially with Ginger in the lead. No hippy hop running from her that time, she was on a mission and what a beautiful sight it was!

Here are some pictures of them from the trip. The first ones are from an earlier day when they saw white tail deer on the land. I had never seen the hair on Duke’s back rise all the way to his neck!

More relaxed pictures . . .

Ginger usually had her chin resting on the lower rail of the porch, looking out hoping to see something interesting.

One of Duke's favorite lookout spots!

This was a pretty common occurrence. Both Duke and Ginger would walk to an area on the porch and look out in the same direction. Guess there was something out there that we never saw.

They both discovered the joy of chewing on deer antlers that we collected during our walks on the land.
Ginger was always one tired puppy, I say puppy even if she is 9 years old, by the end of the day!

The last day, she didn't move from the couch for hours. So when I went to bed, I covered her up, since it was going to be a cold night. She stayed there until around 5:30 the next morning when she wanted to go out and then be fed.
