During our December trip Max became a member of the Friends of McDonald. Two of the member benefits are Passes to one Viewing Night on the 107" Telescope and access to lodging at the Astronomer's Lodge at the Observatory.
In February we made another trip to Ft. Davis, which means we were going down there every other month. Anyway, we were fortunate enough to have the 107” Telescope viewing on the same night of the Lunar Eclipse. So even though it was a Full Moon which interferes with viewing the stars because of its brightness, once the eclipse began and the sky became darker we were able to see the night sky in all its glory.
We spent a couple of nights at the Astronomer’s Lodge. The people were so nice and helpful. We did have breakfast and dinner there. The cooks so understood my food allergies and made excellent substitutions for me.
During this visit we scheduled time with one of the local Realtors to look at land. And spoke to another about property they had listed. A visit with the local modular home rep was also scheduled, just to see our options for housing.
After returning from this trip we made an offer on some land. We couldn’t agree on the price, so it was a no go. It was a bit disappointing, but we continued looking online and stayed in touch with one of the local realtors. More in Chapter 5.
